Ayala's
Games To Be Moved &
Advanced One Day--(February 18, 1998)
Ayala High School was scheduled to host Newport Harbor in an opening round game on Friday in Division 1-AA playoffs. Ayala is seeded No. 2 in its regional bracket, which also features Long Beach Poly, Capistrano Valley, Upland, Leuzinger and Century, among others.
But the game won't be played on Friday. Instead, because of a conflict with a wrestling meet, Ayala High School has had to make adjustments for its boys and girls home basketball games this weekend, according to school officials. Ayala was already scheduled to host the CIF Division 3 wrestling finals Friday and Saturday, which conflicts with boys and girls CIF Division 1AA home games. As a result, the boys' game will be moved from Friday to Thursday. The girls' game will remain Saturday, but the site will be changed. Since school district gyms at Don Lugo and Chino have already been booked with girls basketball games, Ayala athletics director Laing Stevens will have to look elsewhere. Stevens said Ayala is trying to move the game to La Puente Nogales, but that has not yet been finalized.
