Tournament Update: T.O. First Night
Really Updated--(December 9,1997)

Ok, so this is our update update. The correct infomation. But before we get to correcting last night's scores here are the games for tonight in the T.O. 26th Annual Rotary Invitational Tournament being played at Thousand Oaks:

Tuesday December 9, 1997

4:30 pm T.O. JV v. Bendigo
6:00 pm Grant v. T.O.
7:30 pm Newbury Park v. Dos Pueblos

Now back to yesterday's games. Actually we had it pretty much correct on the Harvard-Westlake v. Thousand Oaks game. Correct the score though to give T.O. two more : H-W 68, T.O. 48.

Russell Lakey and Victor Munoz combine for 42 points. Munoz scores 22 and Russell scores 20. We had it correct that Victor scored 11 in the second quarter. H-W puts on pressure during the 2d quarter with a full court press. T.O. Coach Richard Endres tells a reporter "They gave us fits. We were stalemated by them primarily because of their quickness."

The scoring:

H-W: Holmes had 8, Minn 5, Biggerstaff 4, Munoz 22, Lakey 20, Karravas 2, Terzian 2, Kurihawa 2, and Naylor 3.
T.O. : Van Rhee 9, Fennel 4, Williams 11, K. Dixon 2, Furino 14, Fydyk 2, Nelson 3, Grahek 3.

Harvard-Westlake is now 3-0 on the season, and Thousand Oaks is 2-3

In the first game between Grant and Oak Park, Grant wins by 21, 71 to 50. As expected and anticipated, Gilbert Arenas puts on a show, scoring 27 points, including 9 in the third quarter when Grant makes its run. Adir Levy added 14 points. Grant led after the first quarter 16 to 8, and closed out the half with a 29-24 lead. In the third quarter though, Grant outscored Oak Park 17 to 8, to go ahead by 14 at the end of the quarter. The Lancers outscored Oak Park 25-18 in the 4th quarter to hold onto the 21 point lead.

Small side note: It should be interesting for the announcers tonight when Grant plays T.O.--both teams are the "Lancers."

The scoring:

Grant: Winston 2, Adir Levy 14, Yildiz 4, Arenas 27, Harris 9, Tarr 5, Buttikofer 4, Evans 6
Oak Park: Jo.Murphy 15, Je. Murphy 0 (Yikes, twins, again!), G. Jones 22, Conove 9, Z. Smith 4.

We were also close on the Newbury Park v. T.O. JV game. Correct score: 91 to 42.

The big scorers for Newbury Park were not the Bobiks. B. Bobik finished with only 9, Dan Bobik had 2, Luther Staine had 8 points, C. Zernek 14, Meru 12, Turner 13, Roche 3, and the big scorer was Brian Polen with 18.

For T.O.'s JV, Lampert had 15, Cassel 4, Heine 8, Adams 4, Freeth 7, and Babauta 4.

Newbury Park improved it's record to 4-1. Thousand Oaks JV is 0-1.

Shouldn't this count as only a 1/2 game in Newbury Park's record, since this was only a JV team?
