LA Times: What Happened
to Roundball
?--(December 12,1997)

We opened up our Friday Los Angeles Times, looking forward to reading some of the articles about tournaments we didn't attend yesterday, just to catch up, and possibly to pass along some information to share with all of you. Page 1 has hockey (the Ducks and Kariya), a story on the Lakers and their recent 4-5 slide in Shaq's absence, Bill Plaschke's column on Kariya and the Ducks, and a story on High School Football and the City and Southern Section Championships, which we guess are supposed to happen today. Page 2, the usual stuff, odds & ends, schedules, Page 3 a giant Al&Ed's Autosound ad, page 4 TV and sporting schedules for the weekend, page 5 NFL, page 6, NBA, page 7 big ad for Direct TV, page 8 fishing, page 9 big Sport Chalet ad and skiing report, page 10 college hoops, page 11 high school football, page 12 high school football, page 13 high school football, page 15 big golf ad for Roger Dunn, page 16 NHL, page 17 NHL, page 18 horse racing, page 19, box scores and line scores, back page 20, horse racing handicapping.

So what happened to the high school hoops?

Notice we didn't mention page 15.

Page 15 was devoted to a 1/4 page containing only box scores from games played yesterday. It only had a single article about the NoHo girls game against Harvard Westlake.

No story about the Thousand Oaks Tournament.
No story abou the Arroyo Tournament.
No story about the Beverly Hills Tournament.
No story about the Channel Islands Tournament.
No story about the Fillmore Tournament.
No story about the Laguna Blanca Tournament.
No story about the Westlake Tournament.
No story about the Tournament of Champions

In short,no stories at all about any tournament games.

Only the one line descriptions of games tied to the box scores. Sometimes not even a one liner.

Oh, but there were some really fine ads for the Cigar Den, Bob's Classy Lady, and other nude dancer bars.

Unbelievable.

But don't worry.

We've still got some friends. The Orange County Register, The Sentinel, the Pasadena Star News, The Long Beach Press-Telegram, the Evening Outlook, and others.

Even the Daily News had better coverage.

We'll pass some stuff along in a little while.

Later.
