Dominguez Wins South Lake
Tahoe Tourney; Prince MVP--(December 6,1997)
Dominguez won the South Lake Tahoe Tournament, defeating the host South Lake Tahoe team by 12 points, 66-54. Our friend Tucker from the South Lake Tahoe area, was at the game, and sent us this report, which we reprint for you below: :
"The game between Dominquez and South Lake Tahoe was won by the Dons,
66-54. The scrapy Tahoe team came and took a 20-13 point first quarter
lead but the Dons surged ahead on the 3-pt shooting of Tayshaun Prince,
leading at the half, 34-28. The second half saw the Dons, on the inside
play of Jason Thomas (I believe seeing his first action of the year due
to injury), take control of the game. Thomas, limping noticeably,
controlled the boards, scored underneath at will and created some easy
baskets for his teammates with his interior passing. Walt Small was also
very big inside.
"I wrote earlier that it appeared that Tyson Chandler sprained his ankle
in last nights' game. He played tonight, fouling out in the fourth
quarter, and didn't seem to be injured.
"Keith Kincade, Walt Small and Tayshuan Prince made the all-tourney team,
with Prince the clear choice for the most valuable player.
"On a personal note, I'd like to say that Dominquez is not only a great
team to watch play but must add that they are a team of great character.
They are very fine young men. Compton should be very proud." --- Tucker
So it looks like our earlier report that Tyson Chandler was injured was a bit premature, and simply in error, at least from the way Tyson played. Congratulations to the Dons, to Prince, Tyson and to Jason Thomas, Keith Kincade, Walt Small and the rest of the guys. Well done. Now on to Ft. Meyers, Fla., and to Lewes, Del.
