Nordhoff
Tournament: Channel
Islands Wins Championship--(December 7,1997)
Well, we didn't see this game, but so what. We are SoCalHoops, and we're going to report on the scores and results of as many pre-season tourneys as we possibly can. So here's a very brief report on this one: The Nordhoff Tournament at Nordhoff High.
In a very close game host team Nordhoff lost by a basket to visiting Channel Islands, 61-59. The scoring for Channel Islands wasThomas, Sattlewhite and McKesson each with 14, Berrellers with 5, Blair with 6, and Samuel 8. Nordhoff's Flores finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds, Chris Christofferson, Nordhoff's standout senior 7'-0" center, who has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Oregon next year, only managed 5 points but did have 6 blocked shots, Drew had 7, Emanuel 8, Hill 2 and Lowry 7.
Channel Islands broke out to an early 13 point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the score was only 34-26 at the half, with Channel Islands still in the lead. At the end of the third quarter, Nordhoff had cut the score to 51-46, just a 5 point for those who are mathematically (or is it really arithmetically) challenged. Nordhoff kept challenging, but Channel Islands managed to hang on for the two point victory. Channel Islands is now 3-0 on the season, while Nordhoff is 3-1.
Congratulations to the 1997 Nordhoff Tournament Champions Channel Islands, and to Runner-Up Nordhoff.
In other games in this tourney, Littlerock took Third Place, defeating Fillmore 79-70; South Pasadena took Fifth Place, easily handling Hueneme, 71-49; and Thacher took Seventh Place, defeating Paraclete 70-56.
