San Diego Nike Tourney: A Few
More Scores From Early Rounds--(December 29, 1997)

In addition to the other results we've put up and will continue to post, there were some local teams from SoCal playing on Friday and Saturday in this one. Actually, there were more than just a few, but we don't have all the results, so we're only giving you what we've got.

On Friday, No. 7 rated Ocean View (at least according to the Times' OC edition) beat San Diego Vista 79-54. Ocean View outscored Vista, 26-9, in the second quarter to pull away and take a 40-21 halftime lead in the first-round game. Tony Dow led Ocean View with 16 points, hitting three for three from behind the three-point line. Kevin Hanson scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Jason Martini added 10 points.

On Saturday, Ocean View, proving that it's ranking is no fluke, just hammered Las Vegas Bonanza High 94-56 in a second round game. David Hatch had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Matt Kiemle had 12 points nine coming on three-pointers, for Ocean View, which improved to 8-2 in a second-round game. We'll have more on this tourney as time permits, and we might even go down to San Diego to watch a bit of it and report our impressions personally.

In other first round games, Capistrano Valley beat El Cajon Granite Hills 53-50. Capistrano Valley shot 52% from the field, making 17 of 33 field goals. Capistrano Valley made 15 of 23 free throws. Granite Hills didn't shoot a single free throw in the game, which proves that Capistrano Valley pretty much either didn't play much defense, or just didn't get called for the fouls. Mike Stowell led Capistrano Valley, making five of nine from the field for 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
