Breaking News: Six John Muir Players
In Car Accident--(December 21,1997)

Ordinarily we would not report this type of story, but our prayers and thoughts go out to the players, teammates and especially the parents of 6 players from Pasadena's John Muir High School Girls' team. Our friend Shantay Legans reported to us in an e-mail which we received just as soon as our flight landed from Vegas to LA, that he was listening to KNX News Radio last night when he heard a report that six basketball players from John Muir High School in Pasadena were injured seriously and taken to the hospital last night in a traffic accident. He also says he spoke with one of the players from the boys' team, and in fact it was the girls' team that was involved. We called KNX 1070 to confirm it, and in fact it's true:

The KNX News Desk reported to us that in fact Pasadena Police have confirmed that an accident involving 6 Pasadena John Muir High School basketball players took place last night at approximately 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of New York Drive and Sierra Madre Villa, near Victory Park, which is adjacent to John Muir High. Police said that the six players were on their way to a local restaurant possibly following an event near the school, when the driver of the vehicle lost control. The players have been hospitalized, but there is currently no word on their condition.

Our calls to several local area hospitals did not yield any news and we've been unable to confirm their condition.

Again, if anyone hears anything further about this, please post it to our message boards. But we would also please ask that you only put up accurate information on this, and please do not mention any player's name unless you have in fact confirmed the accuracy of your information and the source of the information. If we hear anything, we will post it up, but our ability to do so during the next week is going to be limited (we'll be out of the area, and only sporadically connected to the web and the site), but we'll do our best to stay on top of this one.

Again, our hopes and thoughts are with the players and their families, especially at this time of year. We wish them a speedy recovery and a return to good health.

Peace.
