Venice High Player Update:
Glen McGowan--(December 16,1997)

We just heard from Venice High coach Dave Goosen and some of it is good news, some not great-- but ther's hope.

Here's the good part: Glen McGowan (6'-6" Jr. F/C). This guy was a virtual unknown at the beginning of the season. He played JV last year at a different school, and transferred to Venice during the summer. Six months ago he was only 6'-1" and who knew that he was going to be 6'-6"? And he'll probably be getting a bit bigger according to Dave, who thinks that by the end of the year he may grow to 6'-7" or 6'-8. Even though he was officially listed early in the preseason as a possible post player, he's really been playing the 2-3 spots in Venice's pre-regular season games and tournaments. But for Venice, and for D-I recruiters, he's the player to watch at Venice.

And there's good reason. In five games, he's scored 135 points, averaging 27 points per game, reaching his season high of 35 points against LA Loyola High in the second round of the Beverly Hills Tournament.

He's got a great outside shot, can drive and take a player off the dribble, and he's got the height and size to be a really effective shooting guard or swing player.

That's the good news.

The other news is that Glen needs to work and focus more, especially if he intends to play D-I ball, because he's certainly capable of taking his game to that next level. We understand that as a result of missing a practice, he may be sitting, at least for a little bit during Venice's first game of the Eagle Rock Tournament (more on that in a while). Glen's mom though says he was sick. We're sure that the parties involved will straighten this out, and that sooner or later, and most likely sooner rather than later, you'll be seeing Glen flash on the court, especially if he gets over that nasty cold of his.

This kid's going to be a great player.

If you get the opportunity, don't miss the chance to see this truly outstanding player this season.
