Prep Classic: Some Random Notes--(December 19, 1997)

Geez, there were a lot of people here at this tournament. The media list and a look around the stands indicated that there were a lot of very connected and important basketball folks in the house at the Durango main gym. For example, in the Durango Main gym, there were Pat Barrett and the Syracuse coach yukking it up while Tony Bland put on a show tonight in the Westchester game. There were about three Pepperdine coaches there as well. Michael Miller and I sat and chatted for a while, and commisserated over Russell Lakey and Victor Munoz' performances tonight in Harvard-Westlake's game.

The Pump brothers, David and Dana were there too, as was Ultra Student Athlete's Lawrence Gray, and a whole bunch of folks from Prep Stars Handbook, a ton of other jc and college coaches and recruiters. If you're going to be evaluating talent during the year, while a player is still with his high school team, then this is one of the best spots to see it.

And they've got really great nachos and hot dogs too. Actually this is a very well run tournament, and they put out complete stats for every game in very timely fashion. They've got a great program, complete media packages, and tons of stuff that we'll be uploading with a lot of background info on some of the players and teams attending. And quite a few SoCal teams too. We'll post the info and scores tomorrow morning. In the meantime, we're going to sleep. Really, this time we mean it. Later.
