Gahr-Cerritos Tourney Results:
Championship Quarter Finals--(December 5,1997)

Ok, so we didn't get to see these games either, but here are some scores and results, which should make a bunch of people happy:

The Championship Semi-Finals will take place tonight (Friday):

Bellflower v. Mayfair at 7:30 at Cerritos.
Artesia v. Gahr at 7:30 p.m. at Gahr.

The Quarter Final Championship Results:

Artesia 90, Wilson 47:

Artesia could be the team to beat this year. Jason Kapono had an absolutely fantastic game, and scored 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the championship-quarterfinal rout by Artesia of Long Beach Wilson in the Gahr-Cerritos Tournament. Alton Davis led Wilson with 13 points, and Jack Martinez (13 rebounds) and Andre Hazel scored 12 points apiece for Artesia, while Apolinar Fernandez and James Murdock added 10 points for Artesia, which is now 3-0 on the season. By the time many of you read this Artesia will have already played host Gahr in the semifinal tonight, at 7:30 p.m. at Gahr.

Gahr 79, Royal 45:

Gahr is going to be very tough this year. At the end of the first quarter, it was obvious to even a blind man that this game was going to be a blowout. Gahr led 25-4, using its full court press and trapping defense to simply shut off Royal. Anthony Davis, a junior guard for Gahr, scored all 14 of his points in the second half of Gahr's quarterfinal win in the championship bracket over the visiting Royal Highlanders, who are now 1-1 on the season. Virgil Pickett and Ramaan Shotwell added 11 points each for Gahr in the win, and Gahr is now 2-0 this year.

Bellflower 71, St. John Bosco 47:

Senior forwards Isaac Brooks of Bellflower had 21 points, and 11 rebounds, and Cedric Lusk had 20 and 11 boards, as Bellflower powered their way over St. John Bosco. The Bellflower Buccaneers, who are now 2-0, cruised to the win. St. John Bosco is now 1-1. Bellflower will face rival Mayfair in a championship semifinal tonight at 7:30 at Cerritos.

Mayfair 56, Cerritos 46:

Seems that brothers have to do everything alike, so Edwin and Erie Draughn each scored 13 points to lead the Mayfair Monsoons (what a great name, especially during an El Nino) to the win. Mayfair is now 2-0, while host Cerritos is 1-1 on the season. Janus Norman scored a game-high 24 points for Cerritos in the losing effort.

In the Consolation Quarter-Finals:

Centennial 70, Gardena 63:

The Centennial Apaches, who are now 1-1 with the victory, led by 15 points in the first half, and only lost 2 points from that advantage at the final buzzer. Centennial guard Arturo Jones had 17 points and a bunch of assists, while Marquis Poole, another Centennial guard, scored 14, and Brian Johnson had just an outstanding defensive game with 14 boards.
