Update: El Segundo
Unverified Rumors--(December 9,1997)
We learned that Montclair Prep, Leuzinger, Pacific Hills, South Gate, El Segundo, and a bunch of other teams are playing at a tournament at El Segundo High this week. We'll try to get more details on this one. But for those of you who just can't wait, and who thrive on completely unverified rumors, incomplete scores, and half-clouded and innacurate recollections of games you didn't see, we've got some stuff for you.
Here's a shocker: According to Howard Abrams, the coach of Montclair Prep in Van Nuys, which many are touting to win a State Championship in Division 5 (and with whom we were meeting on other non-Montclair team related stuff), gave us the most surprising news we've heard in days:
Montclair lost to South Gate today.
Howard didn't remember the score, and we believe him. He said they lost by about 4; that Rocky Steryo had "about 11" points, Jed Hall "about 12", and that Jules Thompson had two great scores on rebound put-backs, and "might have scored even more". If I were Howard, I'd want to forget the score too, since this is really a game that everyone figured Montclair would win. South Gate lost to Newbury Park last week in the first round of the Simi Tournament by 21 points, 67-46. More on this game later.
We also heard that Pacific Hills beat Leuzinger.
