Dominguez
Beats Leuzinger
at South Lake Tahoe Tourney--(December 5,1997)
Another game we didn't get to see, but it must have been great. Dominguez 96, Leuzinger 55.
Tayshaun Prince (6'-8" Sr. PG/SG/F/C) recorded the first triple-double, of his high school career, posting 20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as the Dominguez Dons, now 2-0 on the season after their win against Perris the other night, routed the Leuzinger Olympians in a first-round game. Keith Kincade (6'-6" Jr SF) was healthy and added 21 points and nine rebounds. While the game may have been fairly close (i.e., Leuzinger was only behind by about 15 points) going into the third quarter, Dominguez took the lid off during the third, blowing the game wide opend with a 29-6 third-quarter scoring fest. Tyson Chandler (7'-0" Fr. C) had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocked shots, while Walter Small (6'-5" Sr SF/PF) added 13 points, seven rebounds.
In another first round game featuring Northern Cal school, Muir beat Tamalpais, 78-51. Nope, we've got no details of this game.
But here's a flash:
We're not certain how long this tourney will last, or who all is playing besides Dominguez, but we can tell you that DeMatha High, which is either ranked 8th (USA Today) or 19th (Student Sports), or somewhere in between (by a bunch of others) told us last night after the Wooden High School Invitational that they will be playing at this tournament in a couple of days, I think after they play one game in the Gonzaga tourneyand if you can get up to South Lake Tahoe this weekend, this could be the matchup of the century if Dominguez gets to play DeMatha. We can't vouch for whether or not Dominguez will still be there by the time DeMatha makes it up, so if you do go, we don't want to get any e-mails from you that one team or another wasn't there. But if our source is correct (DeMatha Coach Wootten, and also one of the parents of a DeMatha player) you should see a great matchup, including Tayshaun Prince v. Andre Scott, Tyson Chandler v. Jordan Collins or Matt Slaninka in a battle of the 7 footers.
If anyone's got any other information on this tournament, be sure to let us all know about it.
