Canyon
Tournament: Canyon
Wins Final--(December 31, 1997)
Last night, No. 7 ranked Canyon High, hosting their own tournament defeated El Dorado, 52-50 in a game which was close the entire way.
Canyon entered the final with an 11-2 record, having defeated Loara in the semifinal game 46-43 on Drew Gaulden's (6'-9" Sr. F) 19 point shooting on Monday. El Dorado made it to the final by beating Lakewood Mayfair, 56-50, in the other semifinal.
In the final Canyon's Brad Evans scored 17 points as the Comanches won the tournament championship. Evans was named to the all-tournament team, along with teammates Roger Hogan (5'-11" So. PG), Ali Goodman (6'-6" Sr. F) and Drew Gaulden. Gaulden scored 16 points and was named the tournament MVP. Mike Gartner scored 22 points for El Dorado. As has been reported previously by SoCalHoops, Gaulden is bound for New Mexico next year, having signed a National Letter of Intent during the early fall signing period, and it looks like he's off to a great season again.
In the third place game, Loara defeated Lakewook Mayfair 72-65. Herbert Gracia scored 27 points and handed out five assists for Loara (11-3) in the third-place game.
Congratulations to Canyon High, and to tournament MVP Drew Gauldin, and to all the other All-Tourney selections and to the rest of the participants in this year's tournament.
