A Whole Bunch of Tournament Results--(December 5,1997)
Tourneys, tourneys, tourneys. We've got basketball coming out our ears now. There are so many tournaments we just can't keep track of them all, but we're going to try. Here's a list all going on during the week of December 2-6:
Newport
Harbor Tournament,
46th Pacific Shores (Redondo Beach) Tournament
Buena Park Tournament
The Orange Lutheran Tournament
The Bretheren Christian Tourney
Bravo (Magnet) LAUSD Tournament
Brea Tip-Off Classic Tournament
Cathedral Tournament
Gahr-Cerritos Tournament
Hoover-Burbank Tourney
The Lompoc Tournament
The Loyola LA Tournament
The Newport Harbor Tournament
The Nordhoff Basketball Tournament
The North Tournament
The Providence Tournament
The Saugus Tournament
Serrano Tip-Off Classic
The Silver Valley Basketball Tournament
13th Annual Simi Valley Classic Tournament
The South Lake Tahoe Tournament; and finally
the Webb School Tournament
And these are just the boys tourneys we could locate in the local media. We haven't even scratched the surface, we know, and we do intend to get to the girls games at some point this year, just not now. Obviously this is way too much basketball to keep track for one person to keep track of, so if any of you out there have any results or scores you want to e-mail, let us kno. Anyway, here's a bund of results from a few of these tourneys. Maybe there's a game here or there which is of interest to you.
Newport Harbor Tournament
Lynwood 74, Estancia 67 (OT):
Keyawn Floyd, a junior guard, made his fourth 3-pointer of the game in overtime to give the Lynwood Knights the lead and the win in their consolation bracket victory against the Estancia Eagles, who are now 0-2 this season. Floyd had a total of 22 points in the game, and Gary Lenoir knocked down 19 more for Lynwood, which is now 2-1 on the season.
Buena Park Tournament

Frank Velazquez scored 14 points, Jose Herrera had 13 and Eric Saldana scored 12 points, to lead the Downey Vikings in a balanced scoring attack over California. Downey led by as many as 21 points 3 minutes into the fourth quarter and with only 5 left to play, but managed to hold off a charging California team for the 3 point pool-play victory. Downey is now 1-1 on the season.
