Buckley Defeats Westmark--(December 3,1997)
Buckley, a small private school located in Sherman Oaks, which plays in the virtually unpublicized Liberty League with schools such as Oakwood, Viewpoint, Windward, and Holy Martyrs, has had a fine basketball tradition in years past when they played in the Delphic League. They are slowly and steadily rebuilding the program, and have a fine group of freshman and 8th graders coming up. This year's team is looking pretty good, with a balanced scoring attack and fine defense, but with George Wrighster having left for Sylmar, they are going to have trouble inside against schools with really big men. But last night, Buckley proved that won't always be the case, and defeated Westmark, a team with a tall center in Matt Boylan, in their non-league opener at Buckley, 64-52. The victory was also due in large part to the fact that other than the points contributed by Boylan, Westmark only scored 12 other points.
Yuvi Grewal of Buckley had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Adam Pastor had 14 points and six assists, and Adam Lupu hit for 10 points and eight boards.
Other scorers for Buckley were Rahban with 8, Lalezarian with 2, Ward-Henninger with 5; Weaver, 1, Howard with 4 and Pakarvan with 2.
The most amazing stat of the night: Westmark's Center Matt Boylan, scored a game high 40 points. That's right, 40 points. And Westmark managed to only get off 52 in the whole game.
