Beats Venice For Third Place--(December 14,1997)
Agoura, coming off a defeat at the hands of Cleveland on Friday night, regained a bit of their composure and respect at the expense of Venice High and Coach Dave Goosen, to take third place in the Beverly Hills Tournament. Agoura won 81- 67
Agoura was still without their leading scorer Marcus Helfman, who was on a football recruiting trip to BYU. Geez, couldn't it wait? Paul Saunders, who started instead of Helfman scored 22 points, 20 in the first half, as Agoura took a 48-36 lead into halftime. Brandon Meyer also had 22 points for Agoura, while Mike Patterson had 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Fifth Place: Peninsula 68, Birmingham 58:
The Braves,
who are now 4-2 on the season, had a 45-37 lead, but were
outscored, 13-2, in the last two minutes of the third quarter and
never recovered. Fahim Hassankhail had 18 points and Emmanuel
Evans scored
17 for the Braves. Peninsula's scorers were: Stocksdale 22, 10
rebounds; Perica 4, Thmson 14, Artiano 16, Aschenbrenner 3,
Kundrat 6, Schober 3. Peninsula is now 7-1 on the season.
Consolation Final: Culver City 66, Hart 55:
Hart, which is now 5-3 on the season, came back from a 56-35 deficit after three quarters and were within 61-52 with 2:06 to play, but couldn't catch the Culver City Centaurs, who are 4-3 in the consolation final. Hart went nearly 12 minutes over the first and second quarters without a basket and fell behind, 37-21, at halftime. J.T. Stotts had 14 points for Hart and Scott Hunt added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Indians, while Robbins had 16 points, Shumway had 13, and McKinstry had 11. Others scoring for Culver City were Min Jung with 10, J. Smith with 5, Mericer 3, E. Smith with 4, and Nagatani with 2.
