Beverly Hills Tourney: Agoura
Beats Hami and Felix Lang--(December 11,1997)

Agoura beat up on Hamilton on Wednesday in the second round of the Beverly Hills Basketball Tournament to advance to the winner's bracket. Brandon Meyer scored an amazing 33 points and had 10 rebounds to lead all scorers. Oh yeah, the score: 81-74. Marcus Helfman also had 15 points, 6 blocked shots and 8 steals for Agoura, which is now 3-0 on the season.

Agoura broke Hamilton's full-court pressure defense early and opened up a twelve point lead, and then held on with the great scoring of 6'-7" Brandon Meyer. In addition to Helfman and Meyer, others scoring for Agoura were Dianella with 5, Patterson with 4, Saunders with 6, Kohan 8, Lewinsohn 3, and Huddleston with 7.

Hamilton's scoring was led by Felix Lang (6'-4" Sr SG) who had 26 points. Others were Scott with 18, Gonzalez with 2, Deloach with 4, Ware 1, Foster 10 and Christopher 8. While there are some who believe that Hamilton this year could cause some of the better City Section teams like Westchester or Crenshaw some trouble, they're going to need to improve their scoring balance in order to do so, as the loss is the second in a row in a tournament this year after their showing in the St. Monica's tournament last week. They're a good team, but Lang needs more help than he's been getting lately.

Agoura led 23-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Hamilton came roaring back, outscoring Agoura in the second quarter by 10 points 16-26. But in the third quarter, Agour outscored Hami 25-18 and hung on for the win.

Agoura advanced to the semifinals, and will play against Cleveland on Friday at 6:00 pm at Beverly Hills High while Hamilton played tonight (Thursday) at 8:30 in the consolation bracket.

Previously Agoura had beaten Canoga Park to advance to the Championship round, and Hami had beaten Culver City.

We'll try to keep posted on more scores and game results from this tourney. In the meantime, if anyone is going to these games, send us a report. We and our readers will be eternally grateful and you'll get a glimpse at immortality (or at least some degree of notice) and we'll gladly place your name prominently on the report here at SoCalHoops. Any takers?
