Bell-Jeff Tournament Update: Bell-Jeff
Beats Eagle Rock--(December 17,1997)

So they finally decided to play this game last night at 8:00 p.m. The game had originally been scheduled for Monday, but the one day delay didn't hurt Bell-Jeff as it managed a 10 point victory over Eagle Rock 71-61. Ruben Douglas (6-5" Sr. G/F/C) who will be playing at Arizona next year, had 28 points, while Mike West (6'-6" Sr. C/F) seemingly always just a little bit behind Ruben in point production, poured in 23, and pulled down 12 rebounds. Freshman sensation Chris Jones (6'-0" Fr. PG) had 8 points and 6 assists, while Patrick Thornell (6'-3" Jr. F) had 8, Chris Equia (5'-9" Sr. G) had 2 and Lou Casino (5-8" Sr. G) also scored 2 points.

Eagle Rock's scoring mostly came from Cabagnot and Pamas, both with 14 points, Lehman with 8, Rey with 5, Saucedo with 6, Quach with 9, Del Rasario with 3, and Reguerra with 2.

Bell-Jeff dominated early and often in this game, jumping out right away to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter, and following that by outscoring Eagle Rock 18-14 in the second quarter to take a 36-18 lead into the half in the third quarter, Eagle Rock made a run and managed to shave six points off the lead behind the fine play of both Cabagnot and Pamas, outscoring Bell-Jeff 24-18, and at the end of the quarter the score was 54-42. In the fourth, Eagle Rock also managed to get back another two points, but couldn't close the 10 point gap.

With the win, Bell-Jeff brings it's record to 4-1, having lost only the one game in the finhals of the Arroyo Tournament last week on very streaky play from the rest of the team other than Jones, West and Douglas, who were the only scorers in that game.

The rest of the games played in the Bell-Jeff Tournament yesterday were JV games, but we won't deprive the JV fans of the scores which were reported:

Village Christian's JV's lost to St. Francis' JV's 89-68.

More games will be played tonight in the Varsity side of the tournament and if we ge the schedules and lineups, we'll put them up.
