Bell-Jeff Tournament: First Day (Partially)--(December 16,1997)

We only managed to get some of the scores and highlights from the Bell-Jeff Tournament from the first day of play, and for those of you who just need to know the score of the last game played (between Bell-Jeff and Eagle Rock) you're going to have to come back later. But for now here are some of the other scores:

Grant beat Culver City, 85-71 as Gilbert Arenas had 37 points and Aidr "Mr. Three Point One Touch and Shoot" had 21 points (probably all threes--we don't know yet, and are trying to get the actual details). Other scorers for Grant were Mike Yildiz with 11, Winston with 9, Krishna Evans 4, Justin Buttikofer 2, and Heckman 2. Culver City actually came out strong, and each team played even during the first quarter, with the score at the end of the quarter 20-20. But Grant opened it up during the second quarter, going on a 26-17 run, and then again poured it on in the fourth quarter 26-18.

Monroe also beat up on Arroyo 79-48, as Damien Ritter and Robert Marshall each scored 17 points and Monroe forced 20 turnovers in the game. With the win, previously winless Monroe improved its record to 1-4.

In the only relatively close game we know of, Marshall Fundamental beat Kennedy 61-53, and this game wasn't really that close. For Marshall, the top scorers were Alexander with 22 and Thayayne with 21, while Kennedy's leading scorer was Dutton with 20.

As we said, we don't have the Bell-Jeff score yet, but we'll be getting the details this morning and put the results up ASAP.
