They Never Seem to Stop.
--(December 19,1997)

Are we getting overwhelmed again? What do you think? In addition to the tournaments we've reported some news and game results of, there are probably 10 more or so going on right now in SoCal that we've just not been able to report on. We don't mean to ignore them, so we'll tell you what's happening, but it's going to be a whole lot briefer than the rest of our usual reports. Here goes:

These are the results of Wednesday's games (December 17, 1997) unless otherwise noted:

Courtside Clash (Orange County)

Corona Del Mar 56, Sunny Hills 47

Ryan Alshuler had a game high 24 points for CdM. Simon had 3, Gabriel 9, Richardson 3, Jekel 4, Alshuler 24, Franke 5, Thurman 4, and Cooper 4 for Corona del Mar. For Sunny Hills, Okunrinboye had 20, Oh had 3, hochgesang 7, Hardeman 6, Landgraf 4, Siegbert 4, Weaver 1 and Barnett 2. CDM trailed 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, then outscored Sunny Hills 12-4 and 14-4 in the next two quarters. Corona Del Mar had 4 three pointers, one each by Cooper and Simon and two by Gabriel, while Sunny Hills had 3 three-pointers.

Gary Raya Tournament

Aliso Niguel 59, Esperanza 42

Aliso Niguel was led by Parkin who had 10 points, and JJ Sola with 21. Coquaia had 4, as did Hair, while Caldwell had 5, Elowe had 3, and Valenti, Cooley, Kern, Rodriguez and Deven all had 2 each. Esperanza did not have a single player in double digits. Also noteworthy, in a sort of negative way, was that Aliso's Colley was tossed out of the game on a flagrant foul.

Irvine Tournament

Championship Quarterfinals
Oceanside 67, Huntington Beach 40
Peters had 17 points for HB, and Maiden and Adams also added 15 each for Huntington Beach.

Fountain Valley 58, Estancia 55
Ryan Moreau had 24 points, including six three-pointers. Fountan Valley is now 5-2 on the season, while Estancia is 4-4.

Irvine 63, Capistrano Valley 61

In the consolation quarterfinals:

Champinoship Quarterfinals

Second Round:

Villa Park 73, Sonora 69
Jeff Berokoff had 31 points for Sonora while Will had 30 for Villa Park in the victory. Will had 7 three pointers while Berokoff had 3 threes.

Troy Tournament

Third Round:
Pacifica 80, Damien 53

Alhambra Tournament

Pool Play:
Warren 64, San Gabriel 41
San Marino 48, Alhambra 47
Justin Becker had 17 points for San Marino. Sylvester Allison had 15 for Alhambra, and he hit two free throws with only 25 seconds left to give Alhambra the lead at 45-42. But Becker then nailed a 21 foot 3 pointer from the top of the key to tie the game with only 17 seconds left. Allison then took the ball for Alhambra, Alhambra was then called for a foul with no time left on the clock. Becker made both free throws to win the game.

Temple City 73, Huntington Park 53
Eddie Copeland had a school record 8 three pointers on Wednesday. He also had 31 points for the game, his sixth 30 plus point game, and his still managed 6 assists while playing center. He's only 6"-2".

La Canada-St. Francis Tournament

Pool Play
La Canada 72, Glendale 59.
Ian Sullivan scored 18 of his game high 26 points in the second half and Matt Moore added 15 points for La Canada who are now 6-2

Quarterfinal:
Gahr 60, Diamond Bar 53
Rahaan Shotwell had 23 points,scoring 12 of them in the fourth quarter, to lead Gahr to the victory. Gahr is now 6-2. Junior guard Anthony Davis also had 15 points and forward John Fenderson scored 9.
