St. Monica Classic Semi-Finals --(December 5,1997)

As we reported earlier, the 35th Annual St. Monica's Classic has been going on this week at St. Monica's, in, of all places, Santa Monica. Not at Santa Monica High, but St. Monica's, although Santa Monica did play in the St. Monica's Tourney, which is held in the City of Santa Monica. Got it? Good.

The Consolation games today will be played at 3:30 and 5:00.

The Semi-Final Games will be at 6:30 and 8:00 pm, and will feature:

Los Angeles High v. Hamilton High (6:30 pm)
Crossroads v. Taft (8:00 pm).

Crossroads is certainly not as impressive as last year, now that Baron Davis is gone, but they've got a few feature attractions in Felipe Williams (6'-3" So SG), Chad Gordon (6'-3" Jr. SG/SF) and "Baby Shaq" freshman sensation Isaiah Fox, (6'-9" Fr C). We don't know much about Taft this year, and haven't seen them play, but they do feature some pretty good players who are getting a lot of press and who could, individually each be all-league players, including Amir Bar Nitzor (6'-6" Sr. F), Brandyn Fisher (6'-6" Jr. F), Raja Boykins and transfer Harold Shevlin. Should be an interesting game, and if you can make it to St. Monica's in the rain, then by all means, get there.

In other action yesterday at the St. Monica's Tournament, Laguna Blanca from the Santa Barbara area beat St. Monica's 44-35. Laguna Blanca used its strong defense to improve to 2-0 on the season and advanced to the semifinals of the St. Monica Tournament with the victory. David Cochran had 13 points for Laguna Blanca, and Chris Tamas added another 12, as did Jon Keith with 10.

The Laguna Blanca Owls, we are told will face the winner of the Crossroads-Taft game which is being played at St. Monica's at 8 p.m. tonight, so it's probable that this game will be played tomorrow earlier than the finals, but we're a bit unclear on the exact schedule for tomorrow night.

In any event, here are the scoring totals for Laguna Blanca and St. Monica:

LAGUNA BLANCA - Wilson 2, Lewis 7, Tamas 12, Cochran 13, Keith 10. Totals 16 12-25 44.

ST. MONICA - Myers 10, Tanios 2, Engler 5,Moore 2, Fernandez 7, Moss 9. Totals 12 5-12 35.
