SoCal High School & Prep Tournament Report

Tournament Update: Beverly Hills Tourney
First Night--(December 9,1997)

You're probably getting tired of hearing that we didn't get to see some games. . .but we didn't get to go to this tourney either at Beverly Hills High School. But there were some good games played, so we'll give you as many details as we've been able to cull from the news reports.

Here are the scores from the first night:

Cathedral 68, Beverly Hills 48
Palisades 62, Ventura 38
Peninsula 75, Hart 69
Venice 65, Loyola 53

The only real reports we found were on the Hart-Peninsula game and the Palisades game. Hart, whose football team was knocked out of the playoffs by Peninsula this last week, was also knocked out of the Championship bracket in this tourney. Hart fell behind by 15 points in the first quarter, but with only minutes to play, managed to tie the score at 66-66. J.T. Stott hit on five of his 11 three-point attempts and finished with 29 points, 8 rebounds and four steals.

Peninsula improved its record to 4-0 with the win, and last week won the Loyola Tournament, one which we just didn't get to cover. Hart's record fell to 3-2

In the Palisades game, Jeff Staniland scored 15 points for Ventura, which is now 0-1, and Steve McMaryion scored 26 ponts for Pali which is now 5-0.

As with the other tourney's we're scrambling to get info on, we'll try to get a schedule on this tournament later today. Reports anyone?
