Girls' Game Added To Wooden High
School Classic At Pond--(Sept. 22, 1998)

People have been haranguing us for months and months that we just don't cover the girls' game as much as we do the guys. Well after stating the obvious, we want to let all of you know that we haven't forgotten the girls, and apparently neither have the organizers of the John Wooden Classic 2nd Annual High School Invitational which will be played at the Arrowhead Pond on December 4, 1998. A girls' basketball game has been added to the program for the John Wooden Classic that will be played Dec. 4 at the Arrowhead Pond, and will feature Brea Olinda, winner of the state Division II title last season, and Chino Hills Ayala's girls team, a Southern Section semifinalist in 1997-98. The game will start at 4:30 p.m., and will be followed by the boys' high school tripleheader which will feature:

Rancho Buena Vista vs. Los Alamitos
Compton Dominguez vs. Waltrip (Texas)
Glendora vs Mater Dei.

The first game will showcase RBV's great players, including Aaron Abrams (6'-4" Sr. SG), Jason Bow (6'-3" Sr. SG), Silvio Bohannon (6'-3" Sr. F), Darius Taylor (5'-6" Jr. PG), Adrian Phillips (6'-0" Sr. PG), Louie Corado (5'-9" Sr. PG) and Scott Palmer (6'-3" Sr. SG). We're not certain who Los Al will return because we haven't seen them this summer, but Jeff Grgas (6'-7" Jr. C) and Ron Prettyman (6'-2" Jr. F) should be back.

The second game will feature the usual Dominguez suspects, Tyson Chandler (7'-0" So. C), Keith Kincaide (6'-4" Sr. SG), Keith Brooks (6'-5" Jr.F), Keilon Fortune (5'-11" So. PG), Larry Johnson (6'-6" Jr. SG/SF), and Darius Sanders (6'-4" Fr. F)

Glendora of course will feature Casey Jacobsen (6'-6" Sr. SG), and Mater Dei will feature a couple of great new freshmen, including Mike Strawberry (6'-3" Fr. G), and all of the returning players, like Mike Bayer (6'-6" Sr. F), Steve Scoggin (6'-2" Jr. G), Eric Soderberg (6'-7" So. F/C), Christian McGuigan (6'-2" Jr. G) Ryan Stacey (6'-6" Jr. G), Derek Mansell (6'-2" Sr. G), Imran Sufi (5'-10" Sr. SG), Steven Hilferty (6'-2" Sr. SG/SF), Cedric Boseman (6'-3" So. SG), Sal Munoz (6'-3" Sr. PF), Steve Henderson (6'-4" Jr. SG), and transfer from Westchester Jamal Sampson (6'-10" So. F/C).
