Wethers Does Indeed Commit To Cal--(Sept. 1, 1998)

Word on the street today was that Brian Wethers (6'-4" Sr. SG) from Murietta Valley has committed to Cal. This morning we got the following e-mail from one of the Big Fish, Mark Mayemura confirming the latest catch for Ben Braun:

Yes, Brian did commit to Coach Ben Braun at about 8:30 p.m. last night.

It's incredible, it's a very unique situation. These guys never talked anything about a package deal to Cal, it just happened like dominoes. First Solomon, months later it was Nick, followed by Shantay. Then Brian. Brian choose Cal over Michigan, Notre Dame, Clemson, USC. Shantay choose Cal over Duquesne, the two finalists. He had also been strongly recruited by Notre Dame, Arizona (they backed out in mid-July when they got Jason Gardner). Nick choose Cal over Arizona, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Utah (actually Utah backed out, a few days earlier, they had gotten a verbal from 6'10 Lance Allred). Solomon choose Cal over Duquesne, Florida State and Florida.

Other Rockfish showing interest in the lone scholarship that Cal has remaining are Dalron Johnson and Rafael Berumen. Who knows what will happen?

Well, you can certainly go to the bank with this: We don't know either. But it sure will be fun trying to find out.
