adidas/Pump Fall Discovery Shootout:
Sonora Team Roster & Schedule--(Sept. 19, 1998)

This is a yet a different version of Bob Gottlieb's BWBA I team from last week at the Fall Hoops Classic. Of course it's not coached by Bob, but it does have many of the same players, including USC-bound Nate Hair, JJ Sola, Marquis Worthy and Mike Stowell. The team also features Mike Zepeda, who played for BWBA last spring at the Pump Discovery Shootout and the Easter Tourney. There are a couple of players we've never seen before but have heard a lot about, like Erik McGhee from Magnolia or Chris Monroe from Granite Hills, and we're looking forward to seeing them. The team is loaded with talent, and will play only other top teams at the Shootout. Here's the roster:

Mike Stowell (6'-3" Sr. G) Cap Valley: Tough, tenacious 2 guard, plays very aggressive defense, nice shot, runs, very athletic
Mike Zepeda (6'-9" Sr. C) Century: Big, strong center, developing good post moves, nice hands, rebounds well and runs
JJ Sola (6'-8" Sr. F) Capistrano Valley: Strong inside defender with a very quick step to the basket
Chris Monroe (6'-9" Sr. C) Granite Hills: Another big strong guy, rebounds exceptionally well
Nate Hair (6'-5" Sr. PG/SG) Capistrano Valley: Tough, tenacious defender, verballed to USC and will get one of their two available rides next year.
Erik McGhee (6'-3" G ) Magnolia: fine shooter, quick, led Magnolia to wins over Brea-Olinda twice this past season.
Bim Okunrinboye (6'-0" Sr. PG) Sonora: One of the top point guards last season, all-league player
Mike Bayer (6'-7" F) Mater Dei: Strong, slashing forward, very smart, will help lead Mater Dei this season.
Robert Abreu (6'-4" Jr. G/F) Sonora: Good shooter, nice defender, good rebounder
Marquis Worthy (6'-4" Sr. G/F) Sonora : Top shooting prospect at Sonora this year, will be expected to lead team now that Jeffrey Berokoff is gone.
Koran McCoy (???): He's on the roster but we don't know anything about him, including his height, class, position or school.

Sonora plays the West Coast Stars at 4:00 p.m. on Court 1 and Rockfish I at 8:00 p.m. on Court 3 on Saturday. On Sunday, they will play Pump-N-Run I at 2:00 p.m. on Court 4, and then will meet Rockfish II at 4:00 p.m. on Court 4.
