adidas/Pump Fall Discovery Shootout:
Valley Slam Roster & Schedule--(Sept. 19, 1998)

The Valley Slam is really a conglomeration of players from all over Los Angeles, and one from Orange County thrown in for good measure. Ranging from very young players to current top prospects, this will be a fun team which will see some of the top competition this weekend. Here's the roster and schedule:

Adam Allegro (6'-5" So. F) from Agoura: Adam is a wiry but strong red-headed kid, with good footwork and aggressive moves in an under the basket; he will play varsity this year at Agoura High. Likes to get most of his work done in and around the paint but can step out and hit the long shot.

Matt Bendik (5'-10" So. G) from Palisades: very quick, aggressive player, great defender, moves his feet extremely well. A two-sport athlete, Matt is also a star soccer player. Very smart, decent handle, great decision-maker on the floor.

Adam Drell (6'-6" Jr. PF) from Chatsworth: Attracting lots of attention from some D-I programs, Adam plays tough inside, and likes to do the dirty work under the boards. Great fundamentals, nice footwork, good rebounder, loves to get in and post up agaisnt bigger players. Very smart player. Has the potential to be a top prospect next year as a senior.

David Gale (5'-10" Fr. PG/SG) Buckley Sherman Oaks: Young player with a good perimeter shot, excellent passer who sees the court well; smart player. Will drive, but prefers to distribute, quick hands on defense. Made the West Coast All-Stars Freshman-Sophomore team this summer, and will also play on Pump-N-Run II team this weekend. Played on the Championship Gold Medal Maccabi team in Detroit this summer.

Chad Garson (6'-4" Jr. SG/SF) from N.H Harvard-Westlake: A very good perimeter shooter, especially baseline perimeter shots, both j's and set shots, will mix it up inside, usually plays very tough defense. Chad is currently playing injured with a bad lower back, but is still expected to see some playing time. Played varsity at Harvard-Westlake, and will be one of the core returning varsity players along with Russell Lakey of Rockfish and Eric Geffner who is playing for Total Impact.

Jason Morrissette (6'-3" Jr. SG/SF) from LA Fairfax: A regular for TPI, where he'll also probably be playing today and tomorrow if there's no schedule conflict. Jason is the one of the best shooting guards/small forwards in SoCal. He has a big body; and he easily weighs 220 but still has a great J out to 3, with a smooth, quick release. Very strong taking the ball to the hole off the dribble and in transition. A solid rebounder and defender.

Cody Pearson (6'-3" So. SG) from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame: A very athletic, slashing type of scorer, with a quick first step and drive to the basket, he also has a decent shot from out to about 20'. Has a good handle, plays tough d, and with Chris Williams, will lead Notre Dame out of the wilderness this year. A promising young D-I talent.

Harrison Schaen (6'-7" 8th gr. F/C) from St. Bonaventure in Orange County: Very young extremely promising talent. Imagine Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a 13 year old. Harrison has very developed post moves for a player this young, and will slash from a wing spot to the hole. Great rebounder, plays good aggressive d, and will develop bulk as he grows. Played on Championship Gold Medal Maccabi team in Detroit, and won AAU Nationals this year with Southern California All-Stars.

Darren Tarlow (6'-4" Sr. F) from West Hills Chaminade Prep: Very tough, tenacious player, made West-Coast All-Stars All-Hustle team. Very hard-working guy, will step in to the paint or will shoot from the perimeter. Good rebounder, and runs well. Currently under-recruited, Darren is not expected to sign until the spring.

Craig Weinstein (5'-10" Fr. PG) Studio City Harvard-Westlake: Young player, who plays very tough, aggressive defense, distributes the ball well, and pushes the break. Can shoot from perimeter out to three, but likes to isolate a defender and beat him off the dribble. A young player, his decision making is improving with every game. Will be a big-time player for the Wolverines. Played this summer for Gold Medal Championship Maccabi team in Detroit with Schaen, Gale and Sheslow.

Chris Williams (6'-8" Sr. C) from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame: Not the same Chris Williams from Westchester last year (obviously), this guys' about a half foot taller, a great rebounder, with good post moves. Chris is a big, tall, strong, athletic kid. Active and versatile, he has the size and athleticism to make some D-I program happy for the next four year. This kid has major upside potential. Has worked very hard to learn the post game, and has improved greatly from last year. Will lead Notre Dame this year with Cody.

Will Sheslow (6'-0" Fr. PG) from Montclair Prep--will appear on the roster, but will probably not play, as he'll be busy with Rockfish II. Will is a very quick offensive player, extremely quick first step and great cross-over. Good ball and head fake moves, can take it strong to the hole or pull up for the J. Will play point for Montclair. If there's anything he needs to improve, it's probably only his distribution of the ball. Very promising young player.

Valley Slam will play on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against the Brea Wildcats on Court 4, and again at 6:00 p.m. against the So Cal Heat on Court 1. On Sunday, they will play at 1:00 p.m. against Salt Lake Metro on Court 1, and again at 3:00 p.m. against Anaheim Hills on Court 1.
