More Transfer Rumors & Gossip
Put To Rest--(Sept 5, 1998)

There have been rumors swirling all summer that Jamal Walls (6'-7" Fr. F), Darius Sanders (6'-8" Fr. PF), Mike Strawberry (6'-3" Fr. PF) and Deangelo Collins (6'-9" Fr. C) might all be enrolling at Canyon High in Anahiem. All of these guys, former and current Southern California All-Star players will most likely now end up this coming week at the following schools: Jamal and DeAngelo, both of whom live together, will enroll this coming week at Tustin High according to our sources.

The addition of these two will be huge for Tustin. Jamal is a strong, quick, athletic player, and DeAngelo is one of the toughest inside players around, and he exhibits surprising quickness for his size, and he's got huge, soft hands. With the addition of these two, together with Cameron Jackson (6'-3" Jr. SG) one of SoCal's leading shooting guards last season, and with Peter Johnston, (6'-5" Sr. F) , and Willie Knighton (6'-1" Sr. G) Tustin will become an immediate Top 10 in the Orange County region, and stands a good chance of making it very deep in the Southern Section Division II playoffs come next February.

And Mike Strawberry will, as expected not enroll at Canyon either, but will attend Mater Dei. Not too much of a shock with that news, but we just wanted to put to rest the "Canyon" rumors once and for all.

And finally, we hear it's very "likely" that Darius will enroll in classes at Compton High this next week, but there's still a major push by some in his family to get him to enroll at Crenshaw, where we would predict that by the end of the season he'll be getting major playing time for Willie West. Seems that Darius has a cousin who is on the JV coaching staff at Crenshaw, and the word is that Willie West really wants the big man now for the varsity.

And speaking of Crenshaw, Lester Clay (6'-3" Fr. G), a very talented and smart young man, will be enrolling at Crenshaw this next week too, and we know that Willie West knows talent, so we'd anticipate to see young Lester--who looks remarkably like Kent Dennis-- getting some major minutes during the season too.
