"School Of Basketball"
Coaching Clinic--(Sept. 10, 1998)
Er, um, ok. We thought about going to Fresno to watch some great high school basketball being played by some promising college prospects, including a whole bunch of Division I future-players. And we also relished the idea of seeing and chatting with some big-time college coaches while we were there. But we had no idea, really, that we'd also get the chance to go back to "school." Basketball school. And not just any basketball school.
Darren "Mats" Matsubara has, ingeniously, scheduled an EBO "School of Basketball" Coaching Clinic, which will also be held at Edison High in Fresno, on Saturday, September 12. And the way it's scheduled, you can time the coaches you want to listen to so you don't miss any of the best games. Actually, this clinic truly is for coaches primarily, although we're sure if you show up at the door with money in hand, i.e, $35.00 per coach, and $70.00 for a "staff" price (up to 3 coaches from a single school), that no one will turn you away. And if this is like most of the high profile coaching schools and clinics, there will be some great handouts and booklets featuring ingenious offensive and defensive strategies as well as some interesting talk about recruiting and the process.
Who's teaching the classes? How about Steve Lavin. Roy Williams. Jerry Tarkanian. Jim Boeheim. Not a bad "faculty."
Here's the schedule:
12:00-1:00
p.m.-- Registration
1:00-- 1:50 p.m. -- Jerry Tarkanian, Fresno State
2:00-- 2:50 p.m. -- Roy Williams, Kansas
3:00-- 3:50 p.m. -- Steve Lavin, UCLA
4:00-- 4:50 p.m. -- Jim Boeheim, Syracuse
5:00-- 5:50 p.m. -- High School Clearinghouse, Darren Miller
This will be a very informative coaching clinic, and if you're there, be sure to take a break from the action on the court to catch some of the lectures and discussion.
