Kapono Watch: Home Visit Updated--(Sept. 14, 1998)
Jason Kapono is getting a ton of home visits this week.
Last night, right after winning the Consolation Final of the 1998 dada Long Beach Fall Hoops Classic, he and his family met for a home visit with Utah Coach Rick Majerus who watched the final game from the stands, dressed in t-shirt, shorts and sandals, not exactly what some coaches in attendance were saying was "home visit wear." But then those guys weren't getting a home visit from Jason either. :-).
On Monday night, Jason will get a visit from Syracuse. Tueday it seems it will be a double header, with Minnesota and UCLA, although UCLA might be on Thursday, but we're pretty sure we heard Tuesday.
On Wednesday, USC and Henry Bibby get the place all to themselves, and then the Kapono family will followup on Thursday with a visit from San Diego State. And that's only this week. Wait until next week.
We hear that Jason wants to stay close to home, but you never know. He and Tony Bland would make quite a pair, and Minnesota will open up right away with the chance to play the "point-forward" position. But then there are few opportunities like USC which would offer Jason the chance to play the 2-3 right away, play close to home where the family can watch regularly, and catch them on TV (well, at least there's some TV on Fox-Sports West), which is more than can be said for Minnesota.
Our money would be on either San Diego State or USC, because UCLA is a bit crowded at the position. But UCLA, is, after all, UCLA. Right?
