All The
City Section Frosh-Soph
Schedules Are Now Up--(Sept. 1, 1998)
Unlike the Southern Section and San Diego Section (at least to the best of our knowledge), the LA City Section of CIF is unique in that the Frosh-Soph season occurs in the fall, from September through November. The exact rationale for dividing the City Section seasons in this manner is a bit obscure, but we're sure that at some point it made some sense to somebody. We don't pretend to understand why City Section does things the way they do, but, having said that, we're sort of stuck with it, at least for now until someone figures out a better alternative (hey, what happened to "CEE" and "BEE" basketball and the "exponent system" and class levels anyway???). The upshot of the whole "frosh-soph" deal seems to be that at most, a player in 9th or 10th grade can play two years if he is not a varsity player. And for those who might otherwise move up to JV or Varsity during the season based on ability, well, forget it. Under CIF Rule 514, a player can only have "one season" during a single year in any given sport. Thus, if a City section player plays Frosh-Soph in the fall, he's done with basketball for the year. Can't compete during the "regular" season. Nope. No way.
Is this a good thing? Who knows. It's what were stuck with until better minds decide to change it.
You'll now find a link to the entire City Section Frosh-Soph complete schedules, from a composite point of view, and broken down by league and conference. And there is now a link to the schedules contained at the top of the "Daily Articles" section as well, so you can check the schedule every day if you're really compulsive, or just looking for some hoop action.
And remember, we got these schedules from Barbara Fiege's office at City Section. We didn't put this schedule together, and we certainly do not vouch for its correctness, either as to the typing or as the substance. If you don't check with the school before going to a game, don't come crying to us if the game is moved, cancelled or takes place at a different time. The phone was invented to be used. Call the school before driving across town. Really.
