Aras Baskauskas: Trippin' Once,
But More To Follow--(Sept. 30, 1998)
It's the day for our "A" list, as in names that begin with "a", and we just got an update on one of our favorite players, Aras Baskauskas (6'-3" Sr. PG/SG) from Santa Monica High. Aras is a strong bodied, quick-footed and deadly accurate shooter out to three point range, and he's not afraid to drive the lane or take a man off the dribble.
We hear that Aras has so far had in-home visits with Gonzaga, Yale and U.C. Riverside, and now we hear that he will take an official visit to New Haven, Connecticut to visit the Yale campus. He is also getting some serious attention from Columbia Coach Armand Hill, who is trying to arrange an official visit as well. Both Yale and Columbia are in the Ivy League, but Yale presents perhaps a slightly better opportunity at playing time given the relative youth factor at both schools. Each is pretty well loaded at the shooting guard spot with young players who will be around for several more years, but then one doesn't attend schools like Yale or Columbia just to play basketball after all. At least that's what we hear from Princeton alum Armand Hill. And we also hear that Aras may yet take a visit to Gonzaga, but probably not until later in the year, or perhaps the spring, if he has not already committed to Yale or Riverside by then. We'll keep you posted.
