Pump Fall Discovery Shootout:
Pump N Run II Roster & Schedule--(Sept. 18, 1998)
This is the No. 2 Pump-N-Run team, and it will be coached by Venice High coach, Dave Goosen. , here's the roster:
Cayce Cook (5'-9" Sr. PG) Chaminade: Cayce is the starting guard at Chaminade, and has excellent handles, good court vision, and his game has improved greatly this summer. Seriously under-recruited as far as we know. During the West Coast All-Stars camp, he amazed everyone with his ability to dribble two balls (sure everyone did it, but not like Cayce).
Devin Montgomery (5'-10' Sr. PG) San Fernando: Great athlete, strong, quick, and excellent outside shot, and helped San Fernando tremendously last year. Getting some good looks from a few schools, but nowhere near the interest he should be generating from mid D-I's. Played with the Spartans summer team in the Best of Summer and did very well.
Jesse Boyd (6'-9" Sr. C) Mira Costa: a good athlete, who can run the floor well, play the post with decent moves, but who needs to seriously bulk up and also work on his agility. Not being recruited as much as he deserves; played reasonably well during the summer, but nowhere near his potential. Hey, it's hard to teach height, and at 6'-9" he's got all the makings of a decent college player.
David Gale (5'-10" Fr. PG) Buckley: Young player with a good perimeter shot, excellent passer who sees the court well and has good ball knowledge. Penetrates and and with quick hands on defense, he comes up with his share of steals. Made the West Coast All-Stars Freshman-Sophomore team (with Skyler Wilson, Torrin Beeler, and Baker Dunleavy) during the second session. Member of Championship Gold Medal Maccabi team in Detroit this summer.
Jeremiah Turner (6'-6" Sr. G/F) Sylmar: A Gilbert Arenas-type of guy, capable of playing great defense, and always a scoring threat. Needs to be more aggressive at the next level, but showed well at adidas ABCD and in the Best of Summer playing for his own Spartan team, and he played well enough at the Best of Summer tourney to scare several people. A high D-I but will probably only go mid D-I because he's not getting the looks he deserves
Noel Felix (6'-7" Sr. F) Inglewood-- Tall, agile, a tenacious rebounder, will get inside and bang or step out to shoot or who can swoop in for dunks. Played very well this summer at the camps, tourneys and especially at the War on the Floor Tournament in July. Could be a high D-I prospect, getting some looks from big time programs. UNLV was high on his list, and he on theirs.
Brandon Owens (5'-9" Sr. PG) Pacific Hills : Don't know who's recruiting him, but he could be every bit a mid D-I prospect; Mike Miller saw him as a below D-I player, but we think he's a tremendous player who could help any mid D-I program. Led the Pacific Bruins to the State Title last year. Can run, passes the ball, leads the break, penetrates when there's an opening, a very fine point, and we really like him a lot.
Brandon Moorer (6'-6" Sr. F) Manual Arts: scored 30 points in a game during the Rim Rattler Camp this summer, huge potential to be a high D-I player. Has worked very hard and put in the extra work needed. An excellent athlete, and his skills may have caught up with his height. Look for Brandon and Johnny Hardwick to lead the Arts this year.
Earl Lewis (6'-5" Sr. F) Junipero Serra: A very solid player, good athlete, and a fine shooter, can really tear it up. Should be a mid to high D-I prospect. Played at both sessions of West Coast All-Stars and played aggressivelyl.
Baker Dunleavy (6'-1" So. PG/SG) Jesuit Portland : Michael's younger brother, and son of the Portland Trailblazer's coach, Baker is a fine young athlete, with emphasis on the word "young." He's still very much a developing player, with great outside touch, and his brother's fine court-sense. A fine shooter, he made the West Coast All-Stars frosh-soph team.
Eric Rohwer (6'-9" Sr. F/C) Burbank: Even though he's listed, our best information is that he will not be in attendance, as he's supposed to be at a wedding in NorCal. Were he there, he would get a chance to show the coaches that he's really a pretty tough guy inside. Has developed good hands and fine footwork.
Victor Garcia (6'-0" Sr. G) Albuquerque: We don't have a clue, as we don't think we've ever seen him play out here in SoCal.
Chris Bennett (6'-9" Sr. C) Marshall : A big, very strong and powerful athlete, with decent footwork, good post moves, rebounds and has good hands.
Pump-N-Run II plays at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday on Court 1 against the IEBP Heat, and then again at 8:00 p.m. on Court 2 against the So Cal Heat. On Sunday, they play at 4:00 p.m. agaisnt North Riverside on court 3 and then again at 7:00 p.m. on court 4 against Villa Park
