Fall Discovery Shootout:
Dunleavy Headlines Pump-N-Run I;
Roster & Schedule--(Sept. 18, 1998)
The Pump-N-Run I team will be coached by Howard Avery from Oregon, and will feature an Oregonian at the shooting guard spot, Mike Dunleavy, Jr. (6'-7" Sr. SG/SF) who is currently looking at Utah, Kentucky, and North Carolina and a couple of others. This is the No. 1 travel team in the Pump organization. Missing from this roster is Gilbert Arenas (6'-4" Sr. SG) from Grant who is taking an official visit this weekend to Kansas State. But there are some other really first rate players who will be there, including:
Michael Dunleavy (6'-7" Sr. SG/SF) Portland Jesuit--one of the year's top recruits, he has a great shooting touch, nice size and speed. Can hit the three, pull up for the short J, penetrate and also plays very good defense. About as high a high-major D-I prospect as they come, Dunleavy is really a fun player to watch.
Aerick Sanders (6'-8" Jr. F/C) Serra-- Tall, athletic, big time prospect, filling out from his former way-too-thin frame, he's now beginning to develop some great post moves and has improved his rebounding and his shot. Can be a scoring machine under the right circumstances. Also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
Nick Booker (6'-5" Jr. SG/F) Bishop-- whoa, this is not Tony Booker (nope, we won't make that mistake again). Nick played last weekend for the San Diego Future Stars coached by Fentriss Winn, and they beat Jason Kapono and QBL and he made the All-Tournament Team from the dada.
Travon Bryant (6'-7" Jr. F) Long Beach Jordan: Has been known from time to time to play with Belmont Shore, and last weekend he played very well. A big, strong player, who usually doesn't get enough offensive touches on the ball, he can rebound, post up and shoot from outside. Very big prospect who will get bigger.
Cameron Carr (6'-8" Sr. F) West Linn: Very strong, physical player, who likes to get involved in the paint, not a banger, but does his share of cleaning the glass. One of the best top prospects on the West Coast. Mike Miller had him rated as the best player at the second session of West Coast All-Stars, which may have been a stretch, but then again, no one else really jumps to mind like he does.
Lance Buoncristiani (5'-8" Sr. PG) Galena: The world's busiest point guard, this guy played for more teams this summer and in more consecutive games it's a wonder he's still standing and coming back for more. His only drawback is something that he really can't do anything about and that's his size. Othersise, he's a tremendous player, quick, aggressive, plays defense well, passes and occasionally his shot drops. Very court savvy and fun to watch.
Aaron Abrams (6'-4" Sr. G) Rancho Buena Vista: Should have been recruited by Cal, but is now being recruited by other Pac-10 schools. Aaron is a fine passer, good shooter, plays good defense, has a quick first step, and rebounds too. Really a very high D-I prospect.
Kent Dennis (6'-3" Sr. G) Cleveland: Nearly led the area in scoring if it wasn't for his ex-teammate Ruben Douglas who in fact did lead scoring in the area. Kent is quick, plays strong defense, and has a very accurate j way out to three-point range. Strong, physical, can shut a player down with good defense.
Doyle Cole (6'-5" Jr. SG/F) Serra: More of a shooting guard than a forward, he can hit from the perimeter with ease, he is one of the better wing players in this year's junior class, and with Aerick Sanders, Serra could be quite good this year. Quick, talented and athletic. Runs the floor well.
Casey Jacobsen (6'-6" Sr. SG) Glendora: Mr. All-Everything Shooting Guard, recently committed to Stanford, where he will have a great time with the Collins twins posting up for him. Has played with TPI, Belmont Shore, Southern California All-Stars, and ARC in his storied high school career. Was one of the leaders in Southern Section in scoring last season. Exciting player to watch. Superb athlete.
Branduinn Fullove (6'-5" Jr. SG/F) Simi Valley: Branduinn has really bulked up this past year, and he may want to think about unbulking a bit. A big time player, chronologically he should probably be a senior this year, but we understand he stayed back a year in junior high, just as Harrison Schaen (6'-7" 8th grade F/C) is doing now. Physical, tough inside player who rebounds well, but also steps out and can be a finesse player with a fine shooting touch.
Pump & Run I plays on Saturday against Salt Lake Metro at 3:00 p.m. on Court 3, and then again at 6:00 p.m. when they'll take on Friends of Hoop on Court 3. On Sunday, Pump-N-Run I will play the CA/NY Rhinos at 1:00 p.m. on Court 2, and Sonora at 2:00 p.m. on Court 4. Whoowee, back to back games.
