Glen McGowan Recruiting Update--(Aug. 31, 1998)
Speaking of Venice High, Glen McGowan (6'-7" Sr. G/F) has got to be the most under-recruited guy in all of the senior class this year in SoCal. Currently, Glen, who is a mid to high D-I prospect is getting recruited by Eastern Washington, Cal State Northridge, St. Mary's and 4 or 5 other mid to low D-I schools. He has also gotten some mild interest from Pac-10 high D-I's such as Washington State, Washington, and (gasp) even USC, but then we all know that USC was recruiting everyone who even touched a ball this summer, and we don't expect the Trojans to offer unless they can't get any of their other targets, especially since they've only got a single scholarship left.
We expect Glen will wait until the fall to see what else is available, and if nothing to his liking turns up, don't be surprised if he takes a year off at a prep school to get some serious exposure on the East Coast. Glen played very well this summer, particularly at West Coast All-Stars, and he appears to now be getting adjusted to his size. We don't expect him to go to a conference without a tv contract, so it's probably not a go for the Big Sky or the WCC. But then you never know, especially with a guy like Glen, who really should be Pac-10 material.
