Double Pump West Coast All Star Camp
"Best of the Best" All-Star Team--(July 10, 1998)

We're going to start with the best first, and this was the last of today's All-Star games played, and it was the one that everyone was waiting for. Here's who was named to the team:

Ide Akotaobi 6'-6" Sr. Grand Prairie Texas
Chris Bennett 6'-9" Sr. Marshall California
Nate Bloom 7'-0" Sr. Mt. View California
Tony Booker 6'-5" Sr. Bishop Montgomery California
Brandon Owens 5'-9" Sr. Pacific Hills California
Duane Parker 6'-4" Sr. Crenshaw California
Grant Pledger 5'-10" Jr. Cleveland California
Eric Rowher 6'-9" Sr. Burbank California
Wesley Stokes 5'-10" Jr. Long Beach Poly California
Mike Zepeda 6'-9" Sr. Century California
Lance Bouncristiani 5'-9" Sr. Galena Nevada
Kent Dennis 6'-3" Sr. Cleveland California
Bo Segeberg 6'-8" Sr. Serano California
James Wright 6'-0" Sr. Manual Arts California
Aerick Sanders 6'-8" Jr. Serra California

This was a great group of players, all of whom with the exception of Akotaobi we'd seen play at various times throughout the year. Kent Dennis sticks out most in our minds and he's got a great game. He's built solidly, has a great shot, tremendous quickness and actually reminds us physically a bit of Schea Cotton as a senior. Colleges should definitely be taking a close look at him, especially WAC (or whatever they're gonna call it), WCC and other mid to high D-I programs. We also really liked Pledger and Bouncristiani among the little guys (hey, we already wrote about Wesley's game--what more can we say). We've liked Brandon Owens since we saw him and his Pacific Hills team beat Montclair in the semifinals of last year's CIF playoffs, and he's also a nice mid-D-I prospect. Hopefully he'll get more notice than Pacific Hills' last year senior class, which featured Conrad Adamczak, another great shooter who has yet to surface at any school despite early rumors he was going to Iona College.

Anyway, these guys all felt great about being named to this team, and they certainly all deserved it. Were they truly the "best of the best?" We don't know, but they were pretty damn good.
