Newport Harbor Wins Last Week's
Palm Springs Tournament--(July 17, 1998)

In the rush to get as much stuff up from the West Coast All-Star Camps and in preparation for the adidas Big Time and the Best of Summer and the Slam N Jam NIT next week, we almost forgot to post the results of the third in the series of four Palm Springs Summer Tournaments. We want to thank our friends at Palm Springs High, including coach Paul Barton and Assistant coach Randy Small (who actually prepared this report and e-mailed it to us) for providing as much information as possible. So if Vegas at 116 degrees isn't hot enough for you in the middle of summer, perhaps you'd like to try the local desert, where it was about 118 today.

Anyway, here are the results for the third of four summer tournaments from Palm Springs High School for the weekend of July 10-12:

Newport Harbor swept through the 24 team tournament, behind the MVP play of point Matt Jameson, to beat Colony of Alaska, who last year finished behind Juneau-Douglas and Carlos Boozer on a last second shot in their state tournament. Jameson scored 15 points to lead Newport to a 57-42 victory. Colony was led in their push for the title by guard Patrick McGowan.
