Tournament Total Scoring Leaders--(July 20, 1998)
We've said it before, but it bears repeating: While the "official" word around the Big Time was that they didn't keep stats (unlike the Reebok Holiday Classic, which is put on by the same folks every December, where the stats flow freely and are well printed and available at the media room at the end of every game, the stats were not available at the Big Time), nevertheless, somebody still managed to compile the stats for this tournament. And they did a pretty good job too.
Here are the stats for the Overall Tournament Scoring Leaders, by total points. Note that the two teams in the finals, the Michigan Mustangs and the Team Carolina Sonics, were both the leaders in team points (not surprisingly, since the played one more game than everyone else.) But what was surprising was that over the course of 10 games played in 6 days, Team Michigan Mustangs, which won the tournament over the Team Carolina Sonics, managed to just score ONE MORE POINT than the losing team.
In 10 games, the Michigan Mustangs scored 832 total points.
In 10 games, the Team Carolina Sonics scored 831 total points.
Pretty amazing, no?
Here are the individual tournament scoring leaders. The numbers in brackets indicated All-Time standing in the Tournament:
