Watts Summer Game Schedule This Weekend--(June 23, 1998)
The Watts Summer Games got underway this past weekend, and the competition was in some cases great, and in others pretty spotty. The field featured 85 teams consisting of high school teams, club and AAU traveling teams, and just about anyone who would pony up the entry fee. Chatsworth had a strong showing, and we hear that Adam Drell (6'-5" So. F) who comes off the bench as the 6th man was actually the teams high scorer in at least two of its games last Saturday, defeating Burbank which was without Eric Rowher (6'-9" Sr. C). After all the action this last weekend, there are now only 16 teams remainaing, and the round of 16 Tournament will be played Saturday morning at L.A. Washington and L.A. Verbum Dei, with quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at both sites.
The semifinals (10 and 11 a.m.) and final (2 p.m.) are scheduled for Sunday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Saturday's games are:
At Washington High:
9:00 a.m. Inglewood vs. Pasadena
Muir
10:00 a.m. L.A. Crenshaw vs. L.A. Dorsey
11:00 a.m. Compton vs. L.A. Manual Arts
12:00 p.m. Dominguez vs. Gardena.
At Verbum Dei:
9:00 a.m. Verbum Dei vs. Santa
Monica Crossroads
10:00 a.m. Long Beach Jordan vs Lynwood
11:00 a.m. L.A. Fairfax vs. L.A. Palisades
12:00 p.m. L.A. Westchester vs. Riverside J.W. North.
So, this Saturday, you can literally watch basketball from sunup until well after sundown. There's the Best in the West and the Watts Games in the morning, more Best in the West all afternoon and into the evening, the IntenseCity Summer Classic Saturday night, and then on Sunday more from the Watts Games and Best in the West. Whew. . . Big fun.
