UCSB Fills Another Coaching Position--(June 17, 1998)

According to the Santa Barbara News-Press Online, Greg Clink, the head men's basketball coach at Gavilan Community College in Gilroy, has been hired as an assistant at UCSB. New head coach Bob Williams made the announcment on Tuesday.

Clink will fill the Gauchos' restricted earnings position. Williams earlier hired University of San Diego assistant Marty Wilson as a full-time assistant. He is also retaining full-time assistant Jon Wheeler from the staff of former UCSB coach Jerry Pimm.

Clink, 27, previously served as Williams' assistant at UC Davis during the 1996-97 season. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Chico State, from 1994 to 1996. "Greg Clink is an outstanding young coach,'' Williams said. ``I am very excited to have him as a part of my staff again and I have no doubts that he will do an outstanding job."

Clink played for two seasons at Gavilan College before completing his playing career at Chico State from 1992 to 1994, helping the Wildcats win a pair of Northern California Athletic Conference championships. He was named as the team's most inspirational player in 1994. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from Chico in 1994 and last month completed his Masters of Arts in P. E., also at Chico.
