UDub Gets Shelton--(June 17, 1998)
Frank Burlison of the Orange County Register reports in his latest column that the University of Washington added Marlon Shelton (6'-9" Sr. PF/C) of Rochester High in Michigan, to fill the slot previously allocated to Doug Wrenn, who has instead elected to attend prep school because he reportedly wanted out of his committment; alternate reports claim that Wrenn couldn't qualify because the Clearinghouse wouldn't give him credit for several of his classes. Shelton should be an immediate contributor to the Huskies.
Shelton is the son of Lonnie Shelton, a former star at Oregon State, on one of only four teams to beat UCLA when Bill Walton played there. Following college, Lonnie "bounced around a bit in the old ABA and the NBA" according to Frank. This is a good move for UDub, and Shelton should be a contributor off the bench in his first year.
