Calling All Juniors. . . Now.--(June 16, 1998)

Under a new NCAA rule, college coaches will be permitted to begin calling junior recruits this week, rather than waiting until July 1. The change will allow coaches to get a better indication of which players are really interested in their school, and which are only looking to take up time and space (i.e., "official visits"), and it should help coaches to better plan their scouting during the July evaluation period. . . maybe.

So all you new juniors (or "rising juniors" as the phrase goes-- are they really "rising?") stay by your phones. . . someone is calling you. Better yet, get a phone with call forwarding to a cellular phone, and that way you can still get out and play.
