6th Annual Summer All-Star Classic
Set For June 28--(May 31, 1998)

We talked with our friend Phil Gatton last week but have just now gotten a chance to write up some of the material and information which he provided to us about the 6th Annual Summer All-Star Classic. This one is scheduled for June 28 at Santa Ana College. The Classic will feature an all-star doubleheader of Southern California's top high school seniors.

Actually, we wrote a little bit about this on May 6 following the Pump N-Run Easter Tournament and the Double Pump Classic. If you want to check out that earlier story (Sixth Annual Summer All-Star Classic Doubleheader--(May 6, 1998)), just click on the link.

But since our earlier article, we've learned that there will be a few changes to the format. Including the fact that the two games featuring the 44 graduating seniors will now feature a San Diego v. Orange County Game, and a Northern California All-Stars v. Southern California All-Stars game.

The Orange County v. San Diego County All-Stars will match up at 5:00 p.m. The North v. South will presumably start at about 7:00 or 7:30 p.m.

We do have a revised roster for the North v. South game. Here it is:

Southern California All-Stars vs. Northern California All-Stars
Tayshaun Prince (Dominguez * Kentucky)   Matt Barnes (Del Campo * UCLA)
Tony Bland (Westchester * Syracuse)   Ray Young (Alameda St. Joe's * UCLA)
Ricky Anderson (Long Beach Poly * Arizona)   Rene Jacques (St. Joseph Alameda*Sac State)
Ruben Douglas (Bell-Jeff * Arizona)   Nate Murase (St. Joseph Alameda*Sac State)
David Hamilton (Compton * Auburn)   Senque Carey (St. Francis Woodside* U Wash)
DeAndre Moore (Compton * Vanderbilt)   Phil Jackman (San Ramon Valley*Princeton)
David Bluthenthal (Westchester * USC)   Ron Barrow (Jesuit Carmichael* N/A)
Brandon Granville (Westchester * USC)   Brandon Armstrong (Vallejo*Pepperdine)
Caleb Gervin (Cathedral City * Louisville)   Myron Epps (Tulare Union*San Diego State)
Schea Cotton (St.T.More Prep * N.C. State)   Chris Jeffries (Washington Union*Arkansas)
Jimmy Miggins (Arlington * Golden West JC)   Darryl Tucker (Oakland McClymonds*USF)
Luke Walton (USDHS *Arizona)   Wesley Wilson (Vallejo* N/A)
Gary Colbert (Etiwanda * Utah)   Ray Robbins (Paso Robles*Princeton)
Walter Small (Dominguez *N/A)

Phil tells us that the NorCal guys are really going to treat this game seriously, and want to avenge their last loss at the State Championship game in Sacramento (at least some of them want to avenge that loss). We've seen most of these guys play at one time or another, and have to say this is going to be a terrifically interesting set of match-ups, and probably the last chance to see this group of players together in one place.

We'll have more updates on the Summer All-Star Classic as the date approaches. For now, if you have questions or need information, or, more importantly, if you want to become a sponsor (which will give you the opportunity to feature your business or products in the sourvenir program, or to display a banner in the gym or set up a booth to sell your products) then call Paul Hoover, the Event Director for further information. Paul can be reached at (714) 631-2415. You can write to him at 16475 Harbor Blvd., Suite B-136, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. Or you can reach Phil Gatton by e-mail for further information and sponsorship opportunities.

See you there.
