Some Missing Information:
SoCal Slam N' Jam Tournament Finals--(May 22, 1998)

Since we were in Houston for much of last week and we couldn't be in two places at once, and also Mike Miller of WestCoastHoops was up in Oakland covering the action at the NorCal Slam N' Jam tournament, we were left with a vacuum on what happened here in SoCal at the Issy Washington run SoCal Slam N'Jam "Earnest Killum Jr. Division" Championship game played last Sunday at Dominguez High. So, like it or not, we have to rely upon Frank Burlison's account of what happened. And here's what we know from the account published in the Orange County Register on Tuesday:

According to Frank's account, the Southern California All-Stars (which this year is actually a team composed of both ARC and Southern California All-Star players--but that's a whole other story), led by Casey Jacobsen and Keith Kincaide, managed to defeat the IEBP II team 62-49. Jacobsen, last year's highest scoring junior in Southern Section, who averaged 44 points per game in the playoffs, and had a few games where he scored over 50, and who is also one of this year's top prospects in the senior class from Glendora, hit for 21 points. Kincade, from Dominguez, scored 13 points in the final. We have no idea how Tyson Chandler performed, nor any of the other team members, since Burlison's brief account only covered those two. Frank did write, however that in the quarterfinal game Jacobsen scored 24 and while Kincaide hit for 22 in a 64-61 victory against IEBP I. In the semifinal, Jacobsen scored 27 and Kincaide scored 24 in a 95-75 win over Inland.

Frank also noted that it was a pretty big upset for IEBP II to make the finals, and to get there they had to beat Jason Kapono's Lakewood team in the quarterfinals, 79-76. Kapono scored 22 points, but Trenell Eddings from Rialto Eisenhower was apparently the standout of the IEBP II squad.

We wish we had more details on this but we don't and sadly neither does anyone else. Oh well, there's plenty more tournaments for these teams coming up and hopefully we'll be able to cover more than a few during the summer months.
