Rafer
Alston Will Not Join NBA
Lottery; Wants To Stay At Fresno--(May 2,1998)
Unlike the rest of the troubled youth who have called Fresno home in the past year, Rafer Alston says he doesn't want to put his name in the NBA draft or transfer from Fresno State. "I'm staying in school and want to play at Fresno State," Alston told the Fresno Bee Friday while watching the third annual King of the West Classic exhibition basketball doubleheader at Fresno City College. "I'm going to take care of everything I need to take care of and see what happens after that." Alston was suspended indefinitely by Fresno State officials Thursday after receiving court sanctions for violating probation. Athletic director Al Bohl said Alston must complete all of his classes in controlling domestic violence and receive clearance from the school's Code of Conduct committee before he can return to the basketball team.
