Long Beach Middle School Hoops:
Any Future Stars?--(May 13, 1998)

We have to confess, we have no idea who most of these kids are, but the Long Beach Press Telegram published the results of the Long Beach Middle School All-City Boys' Basketball Championship, which was played last Saturday at Long Beach Jordan High, and we thought we'd pass this along for future reference. Maybe we'll be seeing some of these names in the next few years.

Bancroft Middle School won the title. Doug Peterson scored 19 points and Mike Roche added 17 as Bancroft edged Cubberley, 50-48. The Northern League champions finished the season, 7-1. Joey Heaton added 10 points to the win. Kevin Hill led Central League champion Cubberley (7-1) with 17 points, while Malcolm Ford had 14 and Matt Raitz finished with 10.

The rest of the champion Bruins are Hugo Sanchez, Gearge Lopez, Preston Grant, Marcus Fennel, Alex Watson, Adam Day, Kosal Thuy, Jeff Commminey, Arnold Iribarren, Nick Buckley, Sean Metevia, Jose Garcia, and Robert Johnson. The coaches are Steve Nagano, Joe Day, Dennis Heaton.

The rest of the runners-up Cubs are Michael Mirliss, Tyler Zagurski, Bryan Kinnear, Lavon Joseph, Jason Malone, Torrell Baker, Daniel Claussen, Tyejaun Hatter and Kevin Hobson. Steve Avitable and Clyde Ford are the coaches.
