Mater Dei & Mater Dei Nike Tournaments
June 18-20 & 24-27--(May 13, 1998)

Our good friend Tom "Mr. Mater Dei 6th Man" Wedmore faxed us the brackets, schedules and the teams playing in these two tournaments more than a week ago, and man, do we feel silly for not putting them up sooner. But better late than never. We don't have rosters for these tourneys, but we will be getting them shortly and when we do we'll post them up. In the meantime, here are the brackets. Don't be confused by the numbering of the games for the first day; they become important later for the seeding. Confusing but amusing:

Mater Dei Tournament

All First Round Games are Thursday, June 18:
In the "Upper Bracket" here's what's up:
12:00 p.m. Game 1: Mater Dei #1 v. Santiago
10:30 a.m. Game 2: Crespi v. Newport Harbor
3:00 p.m. Game 3: Long Beach Poly v. Sonora
9:00 a.m. Game 4: Fontana v. Mater Dei #2

In the lower bracket, here's the schedule:

The Winner's Semi's get started at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday:

The Consolation Championship will be Game 25, and will be played at 5:00 p.m. between the winners of Game 17 and Game 19.
Also in the Consolation, Game 26 will be played at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the winners of Game 23 v. Game 24.

The Third Place Game in the Winner's Round (Game 27) will be played at 8:00 p.m. and will feature the losers of Game 18 v. Game 20.
The Championship game will be played at 9:30 p.m. (Game 28) and will feature the winner of Game 18 v. winner of Game 20.
We're betting either MD1 or LB Poly from the upper bracket, and probably Glendora or Artesia in the lower bracket. At least those have to be the favorites going into the tourney.

Mater Dei Nike Tournament

The following week, starting Wednesday June 24 through Saturday June 27, Mater Dei is hosting the "Mater Dei Nike Tournament". We wish the bracket times and schedules were the same, but they're not. Neither are the teams coming. Here's what's up:
