Jon Keller Named Varsity Coach At San Gabriel High--(May 31, 1998)

Jon Keller was named last week as the new varsity coach at SGHS. Last season he was the head coach at San Marino High Schoo, and prior to that had been an assistant to Upland HS varsity for a year. His experience also includes eight year of coaching at South Pasadena's junior varsity and freshman/soph teams. From the information available to us at this time, including a roster from last season, it looks like about half the team were seniors; these should be the returning players: Dennis Carrillo (6'-1" Jr. F), Andrew Contreras (5'-11" So. G), Martin Del Toro (5'-8" So. G), Joey Giron (5'-10" Jr. G) Eric Hsu (5'-11" Jr. F), Jackson Lu (5'-10" Jr. F) and Trevor Martin (5'-11" Jr. G). Not an especially tall group, but when we saw them last year in a pre-season game at the Arroyo Tournament in December, they were quick and bombing in threes all day. We have no word on what happened to coach Eric Hendrickson, the coach last year, but when we find out, we'll let everyone know.
