Assistant Moves to Arizona;
Replaces San Jose State Head Coach--(May 20, 1998)
The University of Arizona announced that it has hired Oregon assistant Jay John to coach Lute Olson's staff.
The 1981 Arizona graduate fills a vacancy created when Phil Johnson left the program to become head coach at San Jose State on March 25. John, 39, joined the Oregon staff last June after spending eight seasons as an assistant under Barry Collier at Butler University. Olson told the media that John will work with the team's big men, along with recruiting, scouting, game preparation, academics and public relations.
