David Jackson Transfers From Utah to Oregon--(May 20, 1998)
Former Portland high school standout David Jackson has decided to transfer from the University of Utah to the University of Oregon. Jackson (6'-3" So. G) spent the past two seasons at Utah. He was used primarily as the Utes' first reserve off the bench last season, averaging 3.3 points per game as Utah advanced to the finals of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Jackson, 19, will be required to sit out the 1998-99 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning the following season. "David will be an outstanding addition to our basketball program,'' Oregon coach Ernie Kent said. "Even though he won't be eligible for games next year, his knowledge, work ethic and ability in knowing what it takes to succeed at this level will be a big plus for us behind the scenes.''
Jackson was a Parade All-American and a second-team all-state pick as a senior at Wilson High School in Portland, averaging 22.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists
