Eastern Washington Signs A Big One--(May 7, 1998)
We don't know how we missed this one about last week, but it's certainly worth reporting now. Eastern Washington University has signed Diablo Valley Community College transfer Wil Levy to a letter-of-intent to play basketball for the Eagles next fall. Levy (6'-8" So. F/C), a 210-pound smooth wing-post type guy, led Diablo Valley to a 58-16 record in two seasons and a Final Four appearance in the California community college tournament.
One of only 20 first team All-State community college players, Levy started every game while at Diablo Valley College. He was a first team All-Bay Valley West League selection after averaging 18 points, nine rebounds and 2 1/2 blocked shots per game as a sophomore. He averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and 2 1/2 blocks his freshman season.
Levy was originally from Oakland McClymonds, and was a McDonalds All-America nominee and an all-league and all-city player there during his senior season in which he averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds a game.
The addition of Levy gives the Eagles a total of six signees to help fill the void left by five graduating seniors from last season's 16-11 team that finished third in the Big Sky Conference. Eastern also announced that 1997-98 redshirt Darrell Walker from Marysville, Wash., has been awarded a scholarship after walking-on to the Eagle program last fall.
